HP Elitebook 8440P and 8470P LCD brightness function controls F9 F10 do not work with MS Windows 10
_________________________________________________________________________________

I have two ageing laptops both manufactured by Hewlett Packard - HP.
The models are Elitebook 8440p and 8470p.

Anyone else who has either of these models running MS Windows 10 will probably have noticed
the LCD brightness control Function Fn+F9 and Fn+F10 no longer work.

I found the links shown below that hosted the HP software which solved the problem.

Not 100% sorted as I discovered every time MS updated Windows 10 with the latest Net Framework,
the Function keys became disabled again meaning I had to reinstall the function key software again.

There are two pieces of software which is supposedly meant to be installed one before the other.

The first is Turbo Boost Technology driver SP56272 but this gave me an error on installing to both my laptops.
Possibly not compatible for Windows 10. I had to ignore this eventually.

Next install the Quick Launch Buttons Utility SP49104 (function key driver) and this was successful -
now Fn+F9 and Fn+F10 controls the LCD brightness.

The docs I read said to install SP56272 first.

Turbo Boost Technology driver SP56272 (this did not work for me on Windows 10) 72Mb.

Next install SP49104

HP Quick Launch Buttons Utility SP49104 (works great on both 8440p and 8470p) 26Mb.

Hope this helps ayone who has been trying to resolve the LCD brightness control probelm.

Would you believe it, my laptop has just gone berserk (me tinkering again)
software wise meaning I had to perform a fresh install of Windows 10 along with all the software.

But now even with the instructions above, the LCD brightness controls fails with fn + F9 and F10 keys.

More hours of internet searching revealed the need to install dot NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or higher) before the
Quick Lauch Button Software would install.

HP HD4000 video driver

MS NET Framework 3.5 SP1

HP Intel Quick Launch Button Software

Success again with the LCD brightness function keys.

Good luck. David.
